MEGA

What MEGA does

MEGA is a cloud storage and file management app for saving, organising and sharing files from an Android phone. It also supports folder syncing and backups across devices, making it suitable for people who want access to the same documents, photos or other files in more than one place.

Privacy and account control

The service is built around user-controlled encryption, so files are intended to be protected before they reach the service and decrypted on the user’s devices. That privacy model also means account recovery needs care: losing the password or recovery information can leave fewer options for regaining access. It is a good fit for users who value control over their files and are willing to take responsibility for their account details.

Communication and everyday use

Alongside storage, MEGA includes encrypted chat, audio calls and video calls. These tools can be useful when sharing files with another person or group without moving the conversation to a separate service. The app also includes file transfers and media access, so it can serve as a general-purpose file library as well as a backup tool.

At a glance

MEGA is published by Mega Ltd and listed in the Productivity category. It has a rating of 4.59 out of 5 from 1,562,804 reviews, with 100,000,000+ installs. Those figures show broad use and a large amount of user feedback, but they do not indicate whether its privacy-focused account controls will suit every family member or shared phone.
